Elechronic & Haole Sound Cinco De Mayo Dance Off Bonanza

Mark your calenders! It's the worst end of the semester holiday. If you're going to be around in the Orlando area for May 5th, DO NOT come out and get down with Elechronic & Haole Sound at Taste Restauraunt & Bar. It's going to suck so bad, the cover is super expensive, no one is going to have any fun, and there won't be any drink specials. On top of that, there won't be a lazer light show, and I heard from a trusted source that both Elechronic & Haole Sound will only be covering Nickelback and Poison.
So yeah, May 5th, just do it. If you don't believe me, check the jams below.

Dub Sonata - 'Bluntitled'

I'm a little late, but hey, any day is a good day for this music. All Dub Sonata is available exclusively through the folks over at EMPT. These are two tracks out of 5 from his new E.P., 'Bluntitled'. Similiar the songs on his last album, the beats are classic and the samples are put together flawlessly, becoming more of a narrative and less of a sound bite. Here's what Dub Sonata had to say about this E.P, you can read the rest of it here at EMPT.

"I made Bluntitled with a certain crowd in mind. It’s not necessarily meant to be thought provoking music but at the same time there is a serious issue at hand that it touches on and even jokes about. Depending on what cuts through when you hear it, you might be laughing, shaking your head in disgust or grooving to the dubbed out drums and heavy bass line.”

Want to buy the whole album? Venga aqui.

Jambando 6

Last night was the 6th annual and my 1st Jambando festival at the Plaza Theatre in Orlando. This shit was so well put together, it was a perfect 8 hour bubble of bluegrass, jam, art and barbecue. I got there a little late, and missed a shit load of bands, but I set up shop outside the bluegrass tent on the front porch. Orlando natives Token Gamblers were finger pickin' good, and played a great set despite the electric noise leaking from inside the plaza. Next in line were the Flat Mountain Band, all the way from Portland, OR who did an awesome cover of "Rollin' In My Sweet Baby's Arms", among other things.
As expected, Railroad Earth was amazing. Besides getting my necessary dose of NJ for the week, seeing them in a venue that small was like hanging out with them at someones house, and they looked to be having as much fun as we were. These guys really never fail to deliver, and they somehow can change seamlessly from foot stomping jams to wistful, beautiful ballads. Between Railroad and Yonder, I have been infected with the bluegrass bug for life. Really a great show.
I'll put the set list up videos up when I find them. So if you're ever in the Orlando area around Easter, JAMBANDO!

Dirty Heads @ House of Blues

It has been a damn good week for music in Orlando. Los Cabezas Sucios swung by the House of Blues this past thursday, along with SOJA and opening group New Politics. I have never seen HOB so crowded in my life, it was wild. More wild was The Dirty Heads set, duddy and dirty absolutely killed it. The highlight of the night, besides covering "Paint it Black", was when dirty brought up a kid from the crowd named Johnny to sing the Buenos Noches rap in "Got No Time For Ya'll". Just see for yourself how he did.

If you were there, check out neosurfer, he's got the HD video hookup from the whole night.

Ween @ Wanee Festival 4-16-11

Cover it with gas and set it on fire!
Most people at Wanee didn't appreciate Dene n' Gene's presence, especially after a really soulful set from Taj Mahal. As Deaner said after playing a few songs, "It's really too early for this shit." They played the classics, opening with "Pork Roll, Egg & Cheese" right into "Bananas & Blow", doing an epic cover of Bowie's "Let's Dance", and encoring with "Roses Are Free". They painted the main stage brown, and then I had to go take a nap.
Check out / torrent the whole set here, download three gems from the show below, and then...

Born Ruffians - "What to Say"

Thanks to Miss Marvel for this one. I've never heard of these guys before, and according to their myspace their from da west coast. This song is from their upcoming album 'Say It'. It's great.

Jose Padilla - "Adios Ayer"

I really can't believe this isn't butter. Off of the 'Private - Extra Lounge' compilation, this is somewhere between softcore porn and the smoothest song I've ever heard. If you torrent, grab the whole compilation here in 320 for an hour and a half of the creamiest.
"Ahora aqui, adios ayer."

Fritz Kalkbrenner - "Facing the Sun"

As I sit on the balcony right now, this song is playing on repeat in my head. If you've ever heard "Sky and Sand" by Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner then this song should sound familiar. Thank John Herbet for this one, the same young gentleman who recommended "Teenage Lion Strobe", which became an instant classic. The video is pretty well done too.

Furthur @ UCF Arena

I never thought I'd hear "Deemsters for President?" on the UCF campus, but I was proven wrong this past Tuesday night. Furthur stopped by on their way to Boca and played an excellent show. They cut the arena in half which made for a much more intimate time, leaving Bobby and Phil a nice space to kick out the jams. You can download the whole show in 320 below. "Unbroken Chain" > "Strawberry Fields Forever" is where it's at.

Avicii - "ID ft. Etta James - Something's Got A Hold On Me (Acappella)"

Avicii played this during his set at Ultra (Track 5 if you have the whole live set). This was already a dope song, but the vocals from "Finally Moving" put it over the top. Thanks to Bock for this one. If you're in the Orlando area, come check out Avicii at The Beacham on April 19th. If you didn't make it to Ultra, this is the next best thing.

KO - "Moving Mountains"

Hell yeah. Ontario native KO finally released a video for his song "Moving Mountains". I guarantee you'll never get this out of your head, this dude has a great sound and some wise words. To listen to the rest of his work, check out his site here.

Dirty Heads with Rome @ Studio X

"Well you never quite forget the first tape you bought,
mine was Naughty by Nature back when O.P.P was hot

Who'd have thought that I could ever turn out this way
I'm blamin ad rock, mic d, and mca
Yeah it was beasties on mind pretty much all the time,
'Till i started smokin pot and figured out about Sublime
Oh my god I never wanted something so badly,
I wanna learn to play guitar and sing just like Bradley
and the b-lines that Eric dropped reminded me of hip hop,
and I'm singin' lovin' is what I got, I got, I got"

Awesome live sessions with Rome from Sublime. Summer is soon.

Chuck Magid - "You Make Me Feel" & "Sexual Healing"

Back from Vail with nothing but a pair of day-glo-visor-glasses and a GoPro cam is one Chuck Magid, 1/2 of Winter Park duo Elechronica. If you're into getting funky, grooving, noodling, you'll most likely like it.
