You Are Listening To...

I came across the site the other day. Ambient music pulled from soundcloud mixed with a running live feed from the police scanners in several different cities. They go together like lamb & tunafish, give it a try.

Boards of Canada - "Dayvan Cowboy"

Listening to this song will make whatever you are doing twice as epic. Off of 2006's 'Campfire Headphase'.

Taj Mahal - 'Mo Roots

Taj Mahal made this album in 1974. He's one of the fathers of blues and reggae, and every song on here is great. A while ago I converted a bunch of my dad's old vinyl to mp3 format, so here's the majority of 'Mo Roots, straight from the needle. The quality is awesome.

Taj Mahal - "Johnny Too Bad"

Taj Mahal - "Black Jack Davey"

Taj Mahal - "Slave Driver (Bob Marley cover)"

Taj Mahal - "(Clara) St. Kitts Woman"

The good news is he can still rock. These are both from last years set at Wanee festival in Live Oak, FL, 4-16-11.

The Mother Hips

Sometimes, one may ask, "What's good?". My reply would be that this is good. The Mother Hips have been rocking and rolling in the Bay area for almost 20 years. Both songs are off 'Kiss The Crystal Flake'. I realize I say this a lot, but the whole album is great. To commemorate 1/5 of a century worth of music, The Mother Hips are releasing a 4-disc box set entitled 'Days of Sun and Grass' which will feature an unreasonable amount of unreleased material, covers, b-sides, and demos.
Thanks a lot to the random hiking guide in Costa Rica who told me about these guys when I was little. And to Chris Dyer of Positive Creations for making all of the sick art that frequently gets put up on here.

Furthur - "The Elevator w/ Steve Molitz"

This is from 3-12-11 at Best Buy Theatre, NYC. "The Elevator" is a Particle song. Mad kudos to Steve Molitz from Particle on the keys. The rest of this show is exceptional, stream or download it here.

The Heptones - "I Shall Be Released"

Courtesy of a huge stash of Rocksteady and early Ska cd's given to me my friend's dad, father of the father of PB&J, here's a great cover of The Band's "I Shall Be Released".

Icebird - "Going and Going. And Going"

rjd2 has now teamed up with Philadelphia soul-singer Aaron Livingston to form Icebird. The song below is from their upcoming album, 'The Abandoned Lullaby', set for release on October 11th. I really hope the rest of it sounds like this.

Loose Talk Cost Lives - 'Wax & Gold E.P'

Beautiful songs for sunny days. I get the same feeling from listening to these guys as I did when I first heard Vampire Weekend or TDCC. Loose Talk Costs Lives are from Leeds, and are about to release 'Wax & Gold' on August 8th. Credit shall be given to the folks over at The Recommender, who were contacted by LTCL to assist in the release of this awesome collection of songs. Hit play, and head over to The Recommender to read about the new E.P.
