The Opiates - "Reality T.V (Drop Out Orchestra Dub)"

Billie Ray Martin and The Opiates were kind enough to send me this track a little while ago, and I've been stoked about sharing it since. Billie Ray is a soul singer turned DJ from Hamburg, who just recently formed The Opiates with Robert Solheim and released 'Hollywood Under The Knife'. I can't get enough Drop Out Orchestra, and there's some more solid, shiny sounds in here. In her own words, "a very special booty shaker from drop out orchestra from the forthcoming remix album by THE OPIATES."
Also check out her live DJ set from this past summer, below.

Trey Winter Symphony Tour 2012

'Tis the season to be TRAAAAAAY. The Red-Haired Kris Kringle just announced his Winter Symphony Tour, which stops in Atlanta (2/9), Pittsburgh (2/14), Denver (2/28) and Los Angeles (3/10), playing with the local symphony in each city.
If you're wondering what this will sound like, check out the Trey's free hometown set from LivePhish with the Scorchio Orchestra.

Les Claypool's Frog Brigade - "Dogs"

Besides the unquestionably flawless documentary Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo, I've never liked Les Claypool or Primus. I unwittingly went to their set at Rothbury and they scared the shit out of me. However, Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade have changed my mind. This is off of Live Frogs Set 2, which is Floyd's Animals album covered in it's entirety, described by Claypool himself as "more Pink Floyd than any human being should ever withstand."
Celebrate the entire collection below.

A great soundtrack to start off the break, check tracklist on soundcloud and enjoi.

Yonder's Cabin Fever Tour 2012

This past Friday, Jeff Austin & Co announced their Cabin Fever tour for 2012. Gulf state residents, mid-westerners and southerners rejoice, for February 8th marks the beginning of the 20-show Yonder Bender. The tour includes a 5 night stop in Flo-rida, with their annual Orlando appearance on February 16th. Unfortunately they've switched to a larger venue (The Beacham, as opposed to The Social), but oh well.

Some choice highlights from last year's cover-heavy show at The Social. Jeff's rant at the end of "Steam Powered Aeroplane" is worth the download alone, as are the jams during "Come Together" and "I Am The Slime".

RAC - Mixtapes

It's been a great week for music. The Misfits killed it this past Thursday night at the Plaza Theatre, Boombox spun the funk on Saturday night in downtown Orlando, and Florida's own Flat Mountain Boys played a great set today at the Winter Park Harvest Festival. To round all that off is some good lovin' from the Remix Artist Collective, three new mixtapes.
It's the Lazy Sunday mix FTW.

Body Language - "Holiday (RAC Remix)"

Huzzah! RAC just released their official remix of the Body Language track "Holiday" (sans all the nonsense from the BBC Radio 1 rip).
Fresh out the oven, Enjoi!

"It’s a relatively difficult tempo to work with, so I just made it a little new wave. Lots of piano and guitar. A bit inspired by Ryuichi Sakamoto’s piano work. Well.. most of my music is." - RAC

Bring Me The Horizon - "Diamonds Aren't Forever" & "Chelsea Smile"

I miss this shit. BMTH are British and currently touring the world, these two tracks are both off of their second album 'Suicide Seasons', on Visible Noise and Epitaph Records. The remix of "Chelsea Smile" that comes with the iTunes album is ridiculous, and so are both of the videos . I've had this album on for days.

Caravan Palace - "La Caravane"

Coming in on the airwaves over from Paris is some electro-swing by Caravan Palace. "La Caravane" is the last track off of their self-titled debut album, 'Caravan Palace'. They are a full band, no samples here, which makes this all the better.

Volta Cab - "Always In The Place (Demo)"

In Mother Land, deep cosmic space disco listens to you! Volta Cab is synth-lover Konstantyn, and here he describes what's happening. Check out his newest demo below, as well as classics below that.

"Volta Cab comes from Mother Russia and brings us into the neon future. Into the times where space rockets are the most widespread type of transport. Into the times where teachers at your child's' school are Martians and the chief-cooks of your favourite restaurant are from Mercury. Into the times when the war is over and everyone in the universe loves one another in the interstellar dance to the synth pop music heavily influenced by the 1980's pop-culture."

Railroad Earth - "Casey Jones (12.31.09)"

Starting off a cold, fall day on the right foot. NJ natives Railroad Earth have done some great Dead covers in the past, especially this version of "Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo". Here they close out their first set on NYE 2009 with a spot-on version of "Casey Jones", at Portland's Alladin Theatre. RRE also just released Retrospective: 2001-2009, a collection of 20 previously unreleased soundboard recordings of shows from 01' - 09'.
There doesn't seem to be any tapes from this night, at least that I can find, but nugs.net has the show available for purchase here.

AN21 and Max Vangeli - BBC 1 Essential Mix

This is by far the most essentially essential Essential mix I've heard in a blue moon. Almost 2-hours of progressive Swedish House bliss.
Courtesy of the brothers at PB&J, jump over there to check out the track listing and listen immediately.

Drop Out Orchestra

Drop Out Orchestra are from Skane, Sweden, apparently never show anyone their eyes, and are well known for churning out the classic disco grooves. Their remixes of the Ark's "Breaking Up With God (Dub)" and Flight Facilities "Foreign Languages" are already up here, but here's more because these dudes get it moving.

Yonder Mountain String Band - "Sand (Phish cover)"

Holy shit they've done it again. Sometimes I wish Yonder would just cover all of the music I listen to. This is the first time they've ever covered "Sand", the debut occurred at Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival in Alta, WY.
If you torrent, enjoy the whole show below via archive.org, courtesy of Russ Minas. The "Shady Grove" encore is two-thumbs up.

EOTO - Halloween Sampler (Lawrence, KS 10.31.11)

For any who don't know, EOTO is a disturbed duo of men with experience in various parts of the electronic, jam, dubstep, trip-hop and D&B scenes. This is a quick three song sampler from EOTO's Horrifying Halloween Bass Face Bash in Lawrence, KS.
I recently met Jason Hann behind a row of port-a-potties over the summer at Electric Forest and can confirm that, in fact, he is this scary in real life.
For more songs from the show, click on over to their soundcloud.

Mickey Moonlight - Live in Lemuria (Full DJ Set)

A great live set from new Ed Banger resident oddity Mickey Moonlight. It's sweet-disco house-funk from outer space, check out the throw-back Aphex Twin remix towards the end of the set. He really loves Rustie.

Say Anything - "Admit It!!!"

Truer words were never spoken, thank you Say Anything. A song about me and every hypocrite I've ever met, three cheers for full iTunes shuffle.

Inspired Flight - "Wonderwall (Remix)"

A lot of remixes get put up on here, but very rarely does a one take on a life of it's own and become something closer to an original tune. Inspired Flight is a trip-hop/electronic/ambient/dub gang from San Diego, and they blend samples from Radiohead, Bob Marley, Simian, Blur and the Postal Service to create an entirely new version of the Oasis original. A while back someone sent me "It's The Chemicals", featuring Scarub of Living Legends fame, and I was immediately hooked on their music.

Brazilian Girls - "Good Time (Ki:Theory Remix)"

Ki:Theory is Joel Burleson, a Richmond, VA resident who has been making music since the early 00's. He's remixed the likes of Daft Punk, Kings of Leon, UNKLE and Queens of the Stone Age, and adds a uniquely groovy lo-fi touch to whatever tracks he's working on. His own stuff ranges from Ratatat-esque beats to melodic guitar work- it's perfect material to zone out to.
Check out his website for free downloads of both his Remix EP's and all of his own tracks, they're great.

Flight Facilities - "Foreign Language (Drop Out Orchestra Remix)"

Drop Out Orchestra adds an extra 10% to the already 100% groove-ness of this song.

Gotye - "Somebody I Used to Know ft. Kimbra (Loot & Plunder Remix)"

Gotye is Australian tech-nut Wally de Backer. Besides the female vocals on the latter half of the track, contributed by Kimbra, all instrumentals and vocals are his. And yes, he does sound a lot like Sting. This remix by fellow Aussies Loot & Plunder makes the song a bit more fluid, but the original is unbeatable. Plus, the video is cool as hell.
