Until The Light Takes Us

Is an unbelievable documentary about Norwegian black metal, even if you're not into that sort of thing.  New year means new music, along with the goal of absorbing at least one unfamiliar artist / song daily.  The collection follows, spanning from contemporary acoustic to bluegrass to minimal-ish, containing songs stolen or borrowed from several different people and places.

This past weekend, The Bela Fleck Banjo Summit offered the bee's knees of stringed sounds. Noam Pikelny, Richie Stearns, Tony Triska (to name a few) and a guitarist named Russ Barenberg all played together and showcased the banjer.  This is one of Russ'originals, a celtically-informed fiddle tune called "Through the Gate".

Jamie xx is too good.

Fruition is a band form Portland, OR and The Bellboys and The Villians are playing with them in this video, all of whom I was introduced to via Davey Jones via the SCI parking lot during Winter Carnival last year. The girl playing the mando kills it, also check out their version of John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery".

Lusine is a texas based musician on Ghostly International.  This track is off of his upcoming album, The Waiting Room, which is out tomorrow.  Remix by a norwegian fellow named Hanssen
