Forever Grateful, Forever Dead

Today is the one year anniversary of the death of Stanley 'Bear' Owsley - a mad chemist, pioneering sound engineer, and legendary entrepreneur. Although I won't be able to celebrate his life in the traditional manner, some old and new tunes to remember him by will definitely suffice.

The Grateful Dead - Live at Berkley Community Theatre - 3-13-1985
A great show for the Rex Foundation benefit, featuring Matt Kelly and Hamza El-Din. Unfortunately I don't know how to embed from archive.org so just click the link and stream the classics. "Jack Straw > Althea" followed by "Mama Tried > Mexicali Blues" is just too damn good.

Lettuce & Soullive @ Bowlive 3 - Night 3 (3-7-12)
Live for the funk, die for the funk, live for the funk. This was Soullive's 3rd festival at the Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, and it was absolutely killer, all night long, till the sun rose. Zach Deputy's appearance during the end of Lettuce's set was a surprise. I also didn't know the guitarist from both Lettuce & Soullive is sometimes better known as DJ KRAZ.

STS9 - Live at Red Rocks (9-9-2011)
Das Sound Tribe de Sector Nueve just put up their show from Red Rocks last year. The intro samples are pretty funny, but the cosmic space womps are even better
