The Ketchup Blues

There isn't enough time in a week for good  movies and music, here's a playlist of the best blues/folk/grass/non-electronic business that's been coming through the speakers.

A six-tet from Portland, OR who just put out their first album, 'We Are the Tide'.   Download above.

I was introduced to these guys while on a climbing trip in Nova Scotia.  Awesome songwriting and folk-punking from Edmonton.  I bet their shows are unbeatable.  No download- just buy the whole album, it's great.

Old Crow Medicine Show -  "Bootlegger's Boy"
Ever since getting their new album and watching the Big Easy Express, this has been on repeat. 'Carry Me Back' is one of the best albums I've heard this year.

Keller Williams & the Travelin' McCoury's - "Broken Convertible"
I saw them play most of their collaborative album, Pick, this summer.  Besides covering My Morning Jacket and Foster the People, Keller and the McCoury's have created a few new classics.  Video evidence follows.

Taj Mahal & Etta Baker - "Railroad Bill"
This is currently my favorite traditional song.  Etta Baker was one of the most influential female pickers, but Crooked Still does a great job with the vocals.

Crooked Still - "Railroad Bill"
The best version.

Chuck Magid - "Butterfly"
Straight from the 407 is Mr. Magid, of Elechronic fame, and this is his newest song and video featuring Kevin Tate and dedicated to Keeley.  Nothing but good vibes and good music.
Really, though- being happy is the key to life.
