Wiz Khalifa - "Roll Up"

Taylor Gang or get struck by lightening.

The Pizza Tapes

One of the lesser known gems from Jerry's career. Enter David Grisman & Tony Rice, two excellent blues/bluegrass players. Every song on this album is good, and the audible connection between the three as they bullshit and play is priceless.

Short Shorts

Short shorts have been a way of life for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was a boy, I never knew any other way. This is a tribute, to the shortest of shorts and to all those who share my lifelong commitment to wearing them.

Matisyahu - "Short Nigun Beat Box ft. Tim Reynolds & John Popper"

I almost forgot this actually happened. From Roseland Ballroom's Festival of Light's show in 2007. Wait till the end for John Popper's (From Blues Traveler) harp solo over Tim Reynolds finger pickin', Shit got religious real quick.

Ween - "Pork Roll Egg & Cheese"

"I see trails, surrealistic pillows... Gene, you have a polka dot monkey on your nose. Pat, those are from safeway."
Two of the most overlooked entities, Ween and Pat.

String Cheese Incident - "Joyful Sound > EOTO Jam > Rolling In My Sweet Baby's Arms"

.... WA WA WAH-NUH. There's an overlap between the videos on the EOTO jam, but it doesn't matter, these are iClips quality. Boom, and behold as a new genre is born- grasstronica.

Blind Melon - "Soak the Sin (Live)"

I've been on a Blind Melon kick all day long. They're the most underrated band of the 90's, second only to Third Eye Blind. It's easy to see how much they influenced rock over the last 15 years. Yeah I had to rip this of youtube, but the quality isn't miserable.

Chad VanGaalen - "Clinically Dead"

After spending less than 5 minutes reading about this guy I'm already into him. An elusive but prolific artist, he's about to come out with his newest LP titled 'Diaper Island', which will be available in May via Flemish Eye. I just can't stress enough how cool and extremely talented this dude is.

Chad VanGaalen - "Clinically Dead"

Chad VanGaalen - "Willow Tree"

J Mascis - "Not Enough"

One of the singles off his new album 'Several Shades of Why', but the video is what's important here. This is so well done, I can't imagine how much time went into it. Chad VanGaalen is an artist and musician from Calgary, his stuff is amazing and ya shud check out more of it below and here at The Flemish Eye.

Cut Copy - "Need You Now (Architecture In Helsinki Version)"

According to the e-mail I just got, this is the first of several 'quality reinterpretations' of "Need You Now", this one done by Melbourne residents Architecture in Helsinki. They cited Roy Orbison as their main source inspiration for the cover, so there's that.

Disfunktion - "Galette (Original Mix)"

Ultra season is upon us, and the forecast for the greater area of central Florida is calling for torrents of house and trance. Unfortunately Miami is out of the question for this weekend, but we are sending several trusty representatives to Ultra who will report back with high quality finger foods and set lists.

IMonster - "Day Dream In Blue"

Thank you Soggy Augie for this gem. I'm still pretty partial to Lupe's remix of this song, but this one has a sweet feel to it.

The Blitzen Trapper Massacre

Premise: Rainn Wilson attempts to join Blitzen Trapper, is denied, and kills off every member of the band so he can play "Furr". I wish I thought of this first.

Dada Life @ Roxy

"We take a doucher of a club and turn it into something ****ING AWESOME."
Smile For Camera's Takeovr last night at Roxy was absurd, Dada Life shit on everyone and then threw a bunch of plastic bananas around and called it a night. I've never seen them before, but the energy they brought was only a few notches below Riot Level, and in such a small venue it made for a hell of a show. Bananas & Champagne, that's all I have to say.

Shaky, poorly shot videos from the show via my blackberry, right here, right here, get 'em while they're hot!

Classixx - "Into The Valley ft. Karl Dixon"

I don't have a white linen suit, and I didn't grow up in the 80's, nor do I live in Miami. But every time I listen to Classixx I have feel like I did and I do. This is Classixx new single from their website, and the bonus jammy remix is one of my personal favorites.

J Mascis - 'Several Shades of Why'

J Mascis doesn't exactly come off as a happy dude. Behind the beautifully unreasonable guitar work are lyrics written by someone who seems to occupy a pretty lonely place in space and time, somewhere in between depression and inspiration. With that being said, this album deserves to be on repeat for a long time. Front to back, every song stands on it's own and then melts into the next without a hitch. Mascis brought in a bunch of friends to sonically contribute, adding some organ, clarinet, slide guitar, flute, lap steel and piano into the mix. "Several Shades of Why" and "Where You Are" are two of the most upbeat tracks, while "Can I" and "Is It Done" sound like old Dinosaur Jr. standards.
Enough writing, more drinking, just listen and then buy the whole album.

Diplo - "MDWWR62: Psychadelic Rock Mix

I could skate / snowboard to nothing else but this for the rest of time. I can't remember where it came from though, maybe the itunes elves who occasionally leave things in my library, who knows. If you're in the Orlando area this weekend, come check out Diplo / Amtrac at Deko Lounge, should be a smashing time.

3.15.2011

Deadmau5 - "Cephi" & "Bleed"

What's Joel Zimmerman been up to these days? Deadmau5, or Dead Mow Five as he's known to some, released a few new tracks on his sound cloud yesterday. Imagine "Strobe", but darker and more medlodic with less of an epic drop. They're not available for download, but check them out here.

Juggling Suns - "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt. 1"

What a world we live in, where something like this song can exist. You have neeeever heard the Flaming Lips sound quite like this. It's from the 2010-05-29 show at the Strange Creek Campout, grab the whole thing on archive.org fo FREE.

Dub Sonata - 'Nights In Cuba'

I've always been a huge fan of the Buena Vista Social Club, and latin in music in general. Dub Sonata is a NYC producer who, after taking a trip back to his homeland, created this flawless instrumental album pieced together from a million different old samples. Buying it on itunes is a must, but here are two tracks from the album that are bound to make you purchase it. Thanks to EMPT for getting this first, go check out their interview with the man behind the sound.

Pendulum - "The Island (Madeon Remix)"

Madeon is rapidly moving up on my favorites list. This remix got him the gold in Pendulum's own remix contest. His last remix of Yelle's new "Que veux tu" was really good, but wanna know the kicker? He's 16 years old.

3.12.2011

Back2TheBassx - "Psychadelic Bounce Music"

If you went to Rothbury, and signed up for the mailing list or 'liked' it on Facebook, then you probably got a bunch of e-mails from this guy without even knowing it. Back2TheBassx, aka
Adam Metchikoff, was a promoter for the festival and has now transitioned into his own career in electronica. Heavy on the bass, his sound is in the same vein as Bluetech, Mimosa or Vibesquad. The opening song is doooope, check his mix and give him some good loving on book face

Juggling Suns @ Old Bay

If you live in NJ and want to enjoy the shit out of this evening, come check out the Juggling Suns at Old Bay Restaurant, in Brunswick. They put on one hell of a show and play their hearts out almost every night around these parts, a ticket is worth every penny (Even though the shows are free about 98% of the time). Chances are you've never heard or seen them before, so here are a few tracks from the last time I saw them at an after party for Umphrey's McGee at the Stone Pony. In all seriousness, they played Shakedown better than Furthur ever has.

Juggling Suns - "Shakedown Street"

* Edit: Show starts at 10:30, not 8, last call is 2.

Gui Borrato - "Beautiful Life (Alex Dias Remix)"

Hailing from somewhere in Brazil, Alex Dias has remixed several Borrato tracks and a bunch of other stuff, and has his own label. This is just a simple but different take on an already great song, making it a little more dance-y and a little less trance-y. I fucking love this song.

Yelle - "Que Veux Tu (Madeon Remix)"

French pop, gets me every time. This sounds like a Daft Punk throw back, it's great, it's for the kids, they'll love it. Mmmmmm.

Two Fresh - 'Airmail'

A slew of fresh new tracks from the Brothers Nicholls. I live for the funk, you live for the funk, they live for the funk... 'Airmail' is a little heavier than their past stuff, and it's definitely worth the $10 for the 320-digital album. Here's a sample

Vasudeva - "Stop Making Yourself Miserable"

Good friends Vasudeva have, for the time being, transformed into a two-headed sound monster. The other two heads will rejoin at some point, but in the mean time, here's some new grooves to groove to.

3.10.2011

Sleigh Bells - "Rill Rill"

If it was sunny out and the pool was open, this is probably what would be playing really loud. It's music to bob and sway to. I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but the video is really well done and just recently released, ch-ch-ch-check it out.

Wiz Khalifa - "In The Cut"

I keep one rolled, I keep one rolled, I always keep one rolled.
Epic use of that song from Garden State. Taylor Gang or Let Charlie Sheen babysit your kids.

Best freestyle ever.

Seasick Steve - "That's All"

It's rainy as fuck in New Jersey, which narrows down the list of available activities to drinking micro brewed whiskey, listening to good music and going on mountain rides. A perfect soundtrack for such ventures is the song below by Seasick Steve. True blues, a man from another time.

The Breakout

Whilst stumbling around my itunes folder, I uncovered some dusty gems. The Breakout was a 4 piece sXe group from Hillsborough and existed for a short but extremely fucking awesome time around 2005. Pictured is the first and only show at the Shariff Residence, circa 2007. R.I.P.

"When it comes time to choose my path that lies ahead
I'll choose what's in my heart
Even if it's not what is in yours"

The Breakout - " Prove Us Wrong"

Paul's Basement circa ????

Damn You Mongolians vs. The Space Brothers - "Legacy (Show Me Love)"

A little bit of spacey D&B to make it through exams.

Maritime - "Parade of Punk Rock T-Shirts" & "Tearing Up The Oxygen"

I heard this a few years ago from a good friend, and the last song by Ima Robot just reminded me of it. It's somewhere between Death Cab and Motion City Soundtrack, which in my opinion is a great place to be since I still listen to them both at least once a day...

EOTO & Michael Kang - Trinumeral Fest 2008

In preparation for the summer, here's an hour of somehow legal footage from one hell of a collaboration. God damnit I love you, tube. I love you so much. As much as I love Lotus.
