Oh yeah? Ohhhhh yeah. Live at the Sound Academy in Toronto, 28/11/08. Sounds so good with BSS.

Something A La Mode - "5 AM (La Tourette Remix)"

Something A La Mode is Thomas Roussel & Yannick Grandjean. "5 AM" is from their 2009 album 'SALM', and the remix by La Tourette is perfect night time driving music. La Tourette has remixed everyone under the sun, check out his soundcloud for more disco-house thingys.

Mickey Moonlight - "This Son"

This starts a sunny Friday off right. Mickey Moonlight, aka Mike Silver, is a U.K based producer and DJ/Remixer who was just picked up by the Ed Banger family. "Pelu Tolo" has a similar feel, just solid sunny island disco tunes.

The Grateful Dead - "Brown Eyed Women"

"Brown eyed women and red grenadine
the bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean

Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down

and it looks like the old man's getting on"

One of the classics. The video version is from 5/88/77 in Ithica, NY; the Furthur version is from All Good Festival, 2nd set 2009; the Playin' in The Band version is from 'Comes A Time: A Tribute to Jerry Garcia' live album at the Greek Theatre in Berkley, 9-24-2005. Unreal lineup. The version of "Brown Eyed Women" has Trey on vocals.

Playin' In The Band features:
Bob Weir - guitar, vocals
Billy Kreutzmann - drums
Mickey Hart - percussion
Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay - backup vocals
Bruce Hornsby - keyboards, vocals
Trey Anastasio - guitar, vocals
Warren Haynes - guitar, vocals
Jimmy Herring - guitar
Michael Kang - mandolin, fiddle (String Cheese Incident)
Jay Lane - drums (Ratdog)
Jeff Chimenti - keyboards (Ratdog)
Mark Karan - guitar (Ratdog)
Robin Sylvester - bass (Ratdog)
Kenny Brooks - saxophone (Ratdog)
Gloria Jones - backup vocals (JGB)
Jackie LaBranch - backup vocals (JGB)

Just Jack - "253"

I love everything this dude does. Just Jack, is as the name suggests, just one guy named Jack. Jack Christopher Allsop is a Camden Town, London native and has been making music since 2007. He grew up as an amateur break dancer and at 15 dove into the electronic scene. This is off 'All Night Cinema' from 2009. Sometime in 2011 he is set to release his 4th album, tentatively titled 'Sexy R'n'B'. Can't wait.

Kid Loco - "Confessions (Parov Stelar remix)"

Some great funky jams to keep the clouds away on a rainy day. Kid Loco (AKA Papa Loco, Kid Bravo) is French DJ / remixer / producer, and Parov Stelar is an Austrian DJ and producer best known for the unreasonable amount of his songs / remixes featured on Buddha Bar and various Lounge compilations.

Dj Shadow - 'The Less You Know, The Better'

"I'm back. I forgot my drums..."

Senor Shadow is back with the recently released 'TLYKTB'. It is a flawless 19-track journey through the mind of a music fiend. He seamlessly weaves through dozens of genres, pulling samples from the darkest corners of the record shop. I still haven't heard anyone else who can create music like this, it's like hip-hops answer to 'An American Prayer'.
Check out the video of him premiering "Redeemed" at Rockwave festival in Greece last year.

And then support good hip-hop and buy the album.

K-OS - "On The Run ft. Saukrates"

Best use of a Phantom Planet song, for sure. I still can't figure out if this song is also called "I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman", but Canadian hero K-OS and Saukrates rap a good story, and the video plays out like an awesome 4-minute long version of Pulp Fiction. It get's a little weird towards the end though.

Casiokids - 'Aabenbaringen over aaskammen'

Or if you're not fluent in Norwegian, 'The Revelation over the Mountain'. Each song flows into the next via driving drums and too-smooth synth beats, broken apart by lyrics that I can not understand but are nevertheless great. A beautiful album overall.

Check out the free single below.

'Aabenbaringen over aaskammen' is set to be released October 11th, but Casiokids were kind enough to release a full stream of the album through Consequence of Sound.

Lera Lynn -"Wolf Like Me"

I'm under the impression that Bluegrass versions of anything are always good, if not better than the original song. Athens, GA based Lera Lynn does TVOTR justice with this great cover of "Wolf Like Me".

Hammock

If you like epic, flowing instrumental ambient ballads that come seemingly out of thin air, you'll love Hammock. Deep down south thur in Nashville, Tenursee this prolific duo makes music that probably falls under the category of post-rock, but sounds a lot more like the soundtrack to nature. They have a boatload of sets and mixes on Soundcloud, and some really well shot videos.
Check out the video for "Moon No Aware", and give their 'Longest Year' E.P a listen below.

Rostam - "Wood"

Somewhere in between Ravi Shankar, The Darjeeling Limited soundtrack, and pre-Roman folklore is Rostam. The name "Rostam" actually has roots in Persian / Asian mythology, but that's neither here nor there. It's on Wikipedia. Rostam is the first name of Rostam Batmanglij, or "That guy who's involved in both Vampire Weekend and Discovery".
This is his newest song.
